Upon closer inspection we can distinguish three main points in the pious Christian practice (which has its basis in the New Testament) of seeking the face of Christ and the face of God. The fundamental point, first of all, is discipleship, or following after Christ, the orientation of one’s entire life toward the encounter with Jesus.
